The goal of the residency is to prepare residents in developing advanced skills in focus areas of clinical psychology to work within VA and other public sector medical settings. As part of your fellowship, you will participate in a comprehensive curriculum and team-based research experiences designed specifically to meet your methodological and career development needs.
An appropriate research mentor from among the Center for Innovations in Quality, Effectiveness and Safety faculty will be identified prior to acceptance in the program.
Primary mentors along with other faculty, who may be outside IQuESt when appropriate , will guide fellows during the course of their fellowship. Fellowship alumni will be prepared to obtain careers developing and conducting health services research, establishing innovative health services programs within care systems, or directing health policy for public or private health systems or governmental bodies.
Applicants must have completed their doctoral degree prior to entering the fellowship program. However, interested candidates can begin the fellowship application process if they are within 3 months of completing their doctoral degree. This two-year fellowship program trains future VA leaders for academic and research careers in a rapidly evolving health care arena by providing a firm foundation in mental health research, education, and clinical care.
It offers three specialty tracks:. Health Services Research. Trains researchers who are well-versed in the issues of access, utilization, outcomes, and effectiveness of geriatric mental health disorders. Clinical Psychopharmacology. Helps investigators translate discoveries in brain science into clinically effective treatments for brain-based illnesses like depression and bipolar disorder. Explores brain and behavior relationships in mental illness that influence their cause and treatment.
