DECATUR, Alabama -- While Decatur police attempted to unravel the case surrounding the June 2 shooting death of year-old Houston Glenn Blackwood, some of the victim's friends and family were getting into a post-funeral fight that ended with one man being shot in the neck.
Decatur police were called yesterday to Chestnut Street -- to the same apartment complex where Blackwood was found dead from multiple gunshot wounds -- to find Komak Love with a gunshot wound to his neck. Love was taken to Huntsville Hospital by MedFlight, and is expected to make a full recovery, Decatur police said in a statement.
Officers chased a man who attempted to flee the scene when police arrived, but officers later discovered the man was not involved in the shooting -- he simply had an active warrant for his arrest unrelated to Blackwood's death or Love's shooting. Although 17 at the time of his arrest shortly afterward, he was charged as an adult. WHNT reports a jury found him guilty after just more than an hour of deliberation.
The news station reports prosecutors say Staten was an accomplice in the actual shooting and also charged him with hindering prosecution.
