New york burning bioshock infinite

Who expected the reason behind her missing finger to be such a significant reveal? It's a real 'gotcha' moment. With so much expository dialogue beforehand, the visual element of seeing baby Anna's finger sliced off by the portal helps to make the scene more powerful.

It's not just the shock value, though. The revelation wouldn't have worked if the player wasn't emotionally invested in Elizabeth in the first place. You grow extremely attached to Elizabeth over the course of the campaign, and she is a major reason why the entire game is engaging from the beginning. You want her to realise her dream of living in Paris but sadly this dream is now shattered.

Players are given time to process the twist that Elizabeth is Booker's daughter as a devastated and apologetic Booker swears to stop Comstock.

But the same luxury isn't afforded with the final and biggest revelation. Everything leading up to the final scene raises the stakes. Comstock stole Booker's daughter. Comstock locked Elizabeth up for her entire life. Comstock will bring about fire and destruction on the world, and he still exists in an infinite number of universes. It's personal. It's also the right thing to do. Comstock and Columbia can't be allowed to exist. You have to put an end to the suffering and go back to Comstock's birth and "smother the son of a bitch in his crib".

How can that even be a question? Then, in literally the last 90 seconds of the game post-credits scene aside , Booker finds out that Comstock is another version of Booker and allows himself to be drowned at the scene of the baptism. The game cuts to black instantly and the credits begin rolling before you can get a real handle on how Comstock is Booker and the full implications of the drowning.

It's a mind-blowing revelation and a mind-searing move. However, the real beauty of the entire ending sequence is that there are so many layers to it. No ending has stayed with me for weeks afterwards like BioShock Infinite 's for this very reason. If you're being analytical, you can hurl a few criticisms its way: Is the ending too much of an info-dump? Is omniscient Elizabeth too convenient a plot device? But what may not be immediately obvious is the fact that much of the story is told through the optional voxophones littered across the campaign.

After witnessing the ending, there's no doubt a long list of questions in your mind, but the audio logs actually answer most of them, from the source of Elizabeth's powers to how Comstock is sterile and ages quickly. How Booker could have become the racist, religious zealot that is Comstock can seem rather ridiculous at first glance, but then you think about Booker's experiences at Wounded Knee and his troubled past and it begins to click in a really rewarding way.

The Lutece twins are another vital part of the story, but again, you only find out the full extent of their involvement by piecing the audio logs together.

They're often the comic relief in the game, yet they're the ones who set Booker down this path in the hopes of breaking the seemingly never-ending cycle. You could argue that it's detrimental to make so much of the narrative missable. You could also argue that the game could have done a better job at explaining the more intricate parts of the story clearly.

I wanted to take some of my screenshots from Bioshock Infinite and edit them to give them an older, more photograph feel to them as if you were looking at them in a scrapbook nowm in the present. I decided not to go full black and white because I didn't feel it would do anything to enhance the images, regardless of time period. I often made about minor changes before adding a film grain in order to preserve the image but still give it a more appealing look.
